Queensland Boat Licence (RMDL)
Get your Recreational Marine Drivers Licence on the Gold Coast with a fully accredited, small-group course run by an experienced BoatSafe instructor.
What Is the RMDL?
The Recreational Marine Drivers Licence (RMDL) is required to operate a powered recreational vessel — including runabouts, tinnies, ski boats, and motorised watercraft — with a motor of 4.5 kW (6 hp) or greater. It is issued by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) and has no expiry once issued.
Without a current RMDL, you are not permitted to legally operate these vessels on Queensland waterways.

A small government fee applies when lodging your Statement of Competency at TMR. This fee is charged by the Queensland Government, not On the Water Training.
Who Can Do This Course?
- Minimum age: 16 years. Students aged 15½ may sit the course as the Statement of Competency is valid for 6 months.
- No prior boating experience required — Paul will get you comfortable on the water from the start.
- Suitable for all fitness levels and experience backgrounds.

- Valid photo ID
- Sunscreen, hat, and water
- Closed-toe shoes or deck shoes recommended
