Common Questions

Here are some frequently asked questions to help you with our services.

We offer the Queensland Recreational Marine Driver Licence (RMDL) for boats, the Personal Watercraft (PWC) licence for jet skis, and a combined Boat & Jet Ski course. We also offer one-on-one advanced boat and jet ski training and Coxswain Grade 3 training.

Head to our Book Now page, choose your course and pick a date and time that suits you. You’ll receive a confirmation email straight after booking.

The Boat Licence and Jet Ski Licence courses each take around 4 hours. The combined Boat & Jet Ski course takes around 6 hours. You’ll also complete an online theory component in your own time before your practical session.

The minimum age for a Queensland marine licence is 16. You can complete the course from 15½, as your Statement of Competency is valid for 6 months.

Bring your completed online theory certificate, valid photo ID, sunscreen, a hat and water. Closed-toe or deck shoes are recommended. All training materials are provided.

Once you pass your assessment, Paul issues you a Statement of Competency. Take it to any TMR Customer Service Centre and your licence is issued on the spot (a small government fee applies).

The theory component is completed online at your own pace. The practical training and assessment must be done in person on the water — that’s a Queensland requirement for all providers.

It happens rarely with our small-group format, but if you need more time you can book additional training and be reassessed. Paul will work with you until you’re safe and confident.

Absolutely — gift vouchers are available for any of our courses. See the Gift Vouchers page or contact Paul to arrange one.
